My work is based on a strong foundation in anatomy and physiology.
Although, it draws from many familiar healing methods: Neuromuscular Re-education, Craniosacral Therapy, Strain Counterstrain, Muscle Energy, Myofascial and Neurofascial Release techniques, and Osteopathic manual manipulation, its main strength is the unique collection of non-massage mind/body techniques I learned from the developers of Biovalent Systems® Manual Therapy and Integrative Manual Therapy (IMT™), Lowen Systems, and Martha Moran. These modalities are gentle, powerful healing processes, fully grounded in precise science.
I first discovered this kind of bodywork when I was seeking relief from 20 years of chronic neck and back pain which I attributed to growing older and to a lifetime of ballet, backpacking and other athletic and sports endeavors even though I had no specific injuries. At that time I had trouble lying on my stomach because I was unable to turn my head comfortably to either side.
After a series of treatments, my range of motion came back and the pain disappeared. In addition, I found I could suddenly ski at an advanced level I hadn't achieved even when I was an instructor 15 years earlier!
